Perspectives From the Process
Tan Weilin
Director, Logistics Firm · Singapore
"We had a contractual dispute with a long-term supplier that had been going in circles for months. Batik Partners structured the mediation in a way that helped both sides actually listen. We reached an agreement in one day that neither of us expected to achieve."
January 2026 · Commercial Mediation
Arjun Krishnaswamy
CFO, Tech Company · India / Singapore
"The arbitration process was more involved than I expected, but Serena kept us informed at every stage. The submissions were thorough and the hearing was well-managed. We were satisfied with the outcome and the way our case was presented."
February 2026 · SIAC Arbitration
Michelle Liang
Managing Partner, Consulting Firm · Singapore
"We engaged Batik Partners at an early stage of a partnership breakdown. David helped us structure a conversation that I genuinely did not think was possible. We didn't resolve everything in the first meeting, but the second session got us there. It was worth doing before things got worse."
December 2025 · Negotiation Facilitation
Raymond Ho
Property Developer · Singapore
"The construction dispute we had could have gone to court and cost us both significantly more than the amount in question. Mediation with Batik Partners produced a workable settlement within three weeks. The mediator was fair and kept the discussion on track when things became heated."
January 2026 · Commercial Mediation
Priya Wijaya
General Counsel · Indonesian MNC
"As a cross-border matter involving parties in three countries, we needed counsel who understood both the Singapore seat requirements and the practical dynamics of the other jurisdictions. Batik Partners delivered on both. The award has since been enforced without issue."
March 2026 · ICC Arbitration
Chin Siong Beng
Business Owner · Singapore
"The fees were clearly explained from the start, which I appreciated. Rajan was methodical and didn't let either side stray from what mattered. The settlement we reached wasn't perfect from my perspective, but it was fair, and I have moved on. That was the point."

Case Studies
How Matters Have Been Resolved
The following are illustrative summaries of the types of matters handled. Identifying details have been generalised to preserve confidentiality.
Distribution Dispute · Mediation
Challenge
An exclusive distribution agreement between a Singapore importer and a Southeast Asian manufacturer had broken down following a change in pricing terms. Both parties had ceased performing, and the relationship had deteriorated over several months of written correspondence.
Solution
Batik Partners facilitated a two-session mediation that allowed each side to articulate their commercial position without the adversarial dynamic of formal proceedings. A revised pricing formula and transition arrangement were negotiated.
Outcome
Signed settlement agreement within five weeks. The distribution relationship resumed on revised terms, avoiding the cost and disruption of SIAC arbitration proceedings that had been initiated but not yet substantially progressed.
Investment Dispute · Arbitration
Challenge
A minority shareholder in a joint venture alleged that the majority partner had engaged in conduct that diluted their interest in breach of the shareholders' agreement, which contained an ICC arbitration clause.
Solution
Batik Partners managed the full arbitration process — from filing the request for arbitration through to the oral hearing. Written submissions covered both the liability and quantum aspects of the dispute.
Outcome
An award was issued in favour of the minority shareholder. The award was subsequently enforced in the jurisdiction where the majority partner held its assets, using New York Convention procedures.
Agency Agreement · Negotiation
Challenge
A regional sales agent had not been paid commission on a series of transactions the principal claimed fell outside the scope of the agency agreement. Neither party wanted formal proceedings, but direct negotiations had broken down.
Solution
Batik Partners was engaged to prepare a negotiation strategy for the agent and to attend a facilitated negotiation session with the principal's representatives. A written proposal was prepared in advance of the session.
Outcome
Agreement reached in a single session, with the principal accepting a partial commission payment and the agent agreeing to a revised scope definition going forward. Matter resolved in under three weeks without formal proceedings.
